Studying Communication Management over the next couple of months I will explore different types of Social Media. Learning about the advantages and disadvantages for individuals and workplace usage.
A question that has been asked numerous times is, Can one person alone make a difference in the world? There is frequently less dispute that one person united with many CAN make a vast difference!
This brings me to my question that directly relates to Social Media:
Can Social Media unite people to make positive inroads into establishing equality for all people around the globe??
I have been doing some research on the question I posed in the first blog I posted above. So far, it seems people are in favour of technology that can reach around the globe at the touch of a button, but at the same time a little bit confused about it all, and somewhat hesitant to embrace it. This is only information that I have received from people I know. In the coming weeks, I hope to broaden my research, I hope you all with enjoy the journey with me and add your thoughts too......
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, nice Blog :) I do believe social media can establish equality. Maybe not for all people, because not everyone will have access to the internet. I feel that it can really bring a workplace together, bringing about equality, fostering relationships and personalising messages (rather than boring old email!).
DeleteTwo very good questions Anita. I feel social media is the great leveller for all as each participant has the same way, right and level of access to express whatever view they wish. Surely if you do have something worthwhile to say, people will take note and follow you.
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, I think social media can have both a positive effect on peoples lives as it can help them connect with people that they may not have had an opportunity to without these outlets. In other ways though it can be quite negative for some with the use of these platforms sometimes allowing people to be quite negative & insulting to others in a faceless manner.
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, interesting questions. I think Social Media is definitely allowing people to come together from across the globe and share more information than ever before. Especially with the use of mobile technology. 7 billion people in the world - 90% can access a mobile network compared with 2 billion with internet access (http://mashable.com/2011/02/04/web-developing-world/ and http://techcrunch.com/2012/05/27/mobile-developing-world/). I don't know if social media can unite people towards global equality - but just getting people connected and part of the conversation is a good start.
